Dream 2: Leviathan of the Boiling Depths
The dream returned not as a tide, but as rupture.
Not as invitation, but as consequence.
The dreamer stood on a jagged cliff of black rock above a sea in open revolt. Waves did not crash against land but against themselves, colliding in towering geysers of foam that hissed like accusation. The air vibrated with a low, unbroken roar, pressure denied release for too long and now tearing itself apart.
There was no vessel.
No illusion of safety.
The cliff shuddered beneath their feet, fractures racing outward as if the ground itself rejected stillness.
From the boiling sea rose Leviathan.
Steam poured from the depths as their coils surfaced, scales glowing like iron drawn from a forge. Their immense body cut through the chaos with violent grace, not striking, not fleeing, simply present. Their eyes burned with a familiar heat, the same fire the dreamer had fed in secret for years.
The sea churned harder in response.
The Hidden Furnace
Rage rarely announces itself as grief. It prefers uniforms. Banners. Certainty.
In waking life, the dreamer hurled that fire outward.
Sermons split the air with condemnation. Lines were drawn: invader, degenerate, unworthy. The world collapsed into enemies and purity, borders and blame. Fury felt righteous, sanctified by scripture and echoed back by crowds hungry for permission.
But here, there were no crowds.
No bodies to aim at.
No faces to project upon.
Only the dreamer, alone with the boiling deep that mirrored what had never been faced.
Leviathan’s head broke the surface fully. They did not roar.
They exhaled.
Within the rolling steam, images twisted into view. Faces from headlines and rallies emerged, banners snapping in unseen wind, then folding inward like paper cast into flame. Among them surfaced the dreamer’s own reflection, warped and snarling, indistinguishable from the shapes they despised.
Memory followed.
Being passed over.
Being ignored.
Watching doors close while others walked through without effort.
The rage had not begun as belief.
It had begun as injury.
Neglect does not look dramatic. It accumulates.
Over time, injury hardened into symbols. Skin became shorthand for loss. Difference became threat. Faith became armor sharpened into a blade. Beneath every chant and verse burned the same core: terror of becoming irrelevant, fury at a self that felt small and unseen.
Leviathan’s voice rolled across the water, heavy and slow.
You aim the flame outward so you do not feel it consume you.
The Faceless Fire
The sea surged violently. Waves slammed the cliff until stone sheared away and vanished into froth. The dreamer clung to a breaking ledge, heart racing with a familiar rush, the same thrill drawn from domination, from imagined walls built high enough to keep fear out.
“You are the chaos they bring,” the dreamer shouted.
Leviathan coiled closer, their vast bulk parting the sea without effort.
I am the chaos you refuse to name. Your hatred is not conviction. It is pain denied shape.
The steam thickened, heavy with vision.
Clenched fists at announcements that passed them by.
Scripture recited like armor, not prayer.
Songs of nation and god sung loud enough to drown the quiet truth: I am afraid.
The fire revealed itself at last. Not righteous. Not pure.
Tangled.
Grief masquerading as certainty.
Envy hidden beneath doctrine.
Rage wielded to avoid vulnerability.
You burn others to cauterize your own wounds. But fire unclaimed spreads inward. It blinds. It isolates.
The cliff gave way.
The dreamer fell.
Claiming the Flame
Heat swallowed them.
Then stopped.
Leviathan’s tail coiled around the dreamer mid-fall, scales searing but not destructive. Suspended above the boiling sea, the dreamer felt the furnace within their own chest echo the storm below.
Leviathan’s gaze held steady.
Name it. Not as their corruption. As your truth.
The words tore free, raw and shaking.
“I rage because I feel powerless.”
The sea stilled slightly.
“I strike because I am afraid of being forgotten.”
The steam thinned.
“I burn to feel real.”
The water calmed further, the roar collapsing into a deep, rolling breath.
Leviathan inclined their head.
Fire denied devours. Fire owned drives.
Riding the Surge
Leviathan lowered the dreamer onto their back, just behind the shoulders where scale met living heat. The creature surged forward, slicing cleanly through waves that now carried rather than battered.
The storm did not vanish.
It aligned.
Rage flowed through the dreamer, no longer blind, no longer seeking targets. It became force without cruelty. Conviction without scapegoats. Strength that did not require domination to exist.
You are not small. You do not need to scorch the world to prove it.
The dreamer gripped the ridges of scale, feeling the immense pulse beneath. Vast. Controlled. Alive.
The Quiet Ember
Dawn broke across the dream-sea as Leviathan slowed, circling a warm, calm lagoon. They submerged gently, setting the dreamer upon a shore where the water lapped without threat.
You will wake to sparks. Choose then. Project the flame, or tend it. Rage unowned rises as me. Rage integrated walks with you.
Their form sank, leaving a single word etched briefly in foam.
Harness.
The dreamer woke breathing hard, but steady.
The world had not softened. Faces still appeared. Words still provoked.
But the fire no longer needed enemies.
It had a hearth.
Deep below waking thought, Leviathan slept.
Waiting only for what remained unclaimed.
