Dream 14: Leviathan of the Bitter Tongue
The dream materialized where hope had been left unattended.
A barren wasteland stretched beneath leaden skies. The earth was split and dry, threaded with thorned vines that strangled anything attempting to rise. Words hung in the air like ash, already burnt before they could nourish.
At the center stood the dreamer on a jagged podium, voice sharpened to a blade. Sarcasm flew outward in practiced arcs. Every sentence landed with contempt. Society dissected. People reduced. Hope dismissed as childish.
From fissures in the ground, Leviathan emerged.
Their immense form exhaled a pale, acidic mist. It was not fury, but corrosion made visible. Each breath carried the residue of disappointment spoken too long without rest.
Leviathan’s eyes cut through the haze, steady and unflinching.
Poisoned Wells
Cynicism does not begin as cruelty. It begins as grief that was never allowed to stay soft.
In waking life, the dreamer was a journalist once animated by ideals. Truth mattered. Stories mattered. Change felt possible.
Then mentors betrayed causes.
Institutions rotted behind slogans.
Dreams collapsed without apology.
Wit hardened into armor. Columns dripped with mockery. Podcasts sharpened derision into entertainment. Relationships withered under superiority worn as insight.
Leviathan exhaled again. Thorned vines recoiled and wilted.
Your tongue poisons what it once loved, Leviathan rasped. Cynicism unowned builds walls from shattered hope and calls them clarity.
Visions surfaced.
Friendships abandoned under the weight of snark.
Stories of beauty left unwritten.
An inner idealist gagged so they would not beg to believe again.
The Armor of Contempt
The ground trembled. Cracks spread beneath the podium as Leviathan circled. Acidic mist ate through stone. Thorns lashed back, drawing blood from the dreamer’s hands.
“Why corrode my insight?” they sneered. “Naivety was punished. Cynicism sees truth. Hope is a lie for fools.”
Leviathan inhaled sharply. The mist thinned.
Beneath the thorns, tender shoots appeared.
Unscarred beliefs.
Longing for meaning.
Care that had nowhere safe to land.
Cynicism unowned protects by destroying, Leviathan said. It scorches connection while secretly craving it. Beneath contempt lives the wounded believer.
The armor cracked.
Columns meant to awaken instead demeaned.
Humor sharpened into cruelty.
Solitude chosen over the risk of wonder.
Contempt revealed itself for what it was.
Grief wearing teeth.
Naming the Venom
Leviathan parted their jaws. The acidic mist transformed into clean rain, falling gently across the cracked earth.
Name the bitterness, they said. Dissolve the armor. Reclaim sight without blindness.
The words burned as they surfaced.
“I mock hope because it hurt when it failed me.”
The thorns softened.
“I scorn others to hide my own broken dreams.”
The mist cleared.
“I wield contempt to avoid longing for what I lost.”
Leviathan inclined their head.
Cynicism unowned desolates. Dissolved, it tempers wisdom.
Greening the Voice
Leviathan reshaped the land. Wasteland turned fertile. Thorned vines loosened into trellises. The jagged podium sank into soil, becoming a circle of listening rather than a stage of attack.
Speak, Leviathan said. Truth without poison cuts deep and heals deeper.
The dreamer stepped down. Words emerged slower now. Sharper for their honesty, gentler for their care. Critique remained, but it carried possibility instead of scorn.
Leviathan watered new growth as a living spring.
See clearly without blinding, they murmured. Connect without cutting. Let hope return scarred but alive.
Awakening to Tempered Vision
Leviathan settled beneath the greening earth. The wasteland breathed again.
Their voice echoed softly.
You wake to stories and strangers. Speak uncoiled. Critique from love. Balance truth with grace. Cynicism unowned isolates. Wisdom tempered connects.
The dreamer woke mid-draft.
Barbs were deleted.
Sentences rewritten.
The first line shifted.
What if…
Beneath waking thought, Leviathan rested.
The tongue was no longer bitter.
It was precise.
And alive.
